How many Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs fans can say that? Every inning there’s a chance to see Vernon Wells making a webgem in center, Alex Rios gunning down runners at the plate and John freakin’ MacDonald do anything. I think I would pay to see that man empty his dishwasher.

Not the Blue Jays 18 million dollar man Vernon Wells, not homerun derby finalist Alex Rios, I found myself instead hoping that Jason Bay would lose a ball in the lights or Dustin Pedroia would miss a throw to first. I wasn’t pinning my hopes on the Blue Jays to winning, but rather that the Red Sox would lose it.

Can Vernon Wells rebound from and awful 2007 campaign?

The Blue Jays suffered through a particularly disappointing year in 2007 experiencing one bad break after another. One of the biggest factors of the disappointment was Wells’ struggles. The good news for this season is that he should rebound from last season’s dismal performance which was due to a torn labrum he suffered early in the season and tried to play through. He finally shut it down in September and had surgery to repair the shoulder. Now with a clean bill of health, as well as the motivation to justify the giant contract he signed before last season, Wells is primed to return to his old self this season. With a healthy

The Blue Jays offense will be strong this year, especially with a healthy Vernon Wells who struggled last year with shoulder problems. Roy Halladay anchors a rotation that will be one of the strongest in the game when AJ Burnett is healthy. Shaun Marcum and Dustin McGowan proved to be solid starters and should be strong in the 3 and 4 slots in the rotation. Closer BJ Ryan says he will be ready for opening day after missing most of last year following Tommy John surgery. In his absence, Jeremy Accardo emerged to save 30 games and should be a great set up man to help the Jays shut the door in the late innings.
